Some elaboration.

I feel I should elaborate more on what exactly I was talking about in my previous entry.

You see, an example of this is easy to explain.  Let's use me, as a matter of fact.  I'm very much a fanboy of Super Sentai, as much as I can be.  I can imagine myself in those situations, and because my imagination is so active at all times, I can easily create histories for different characters.  This is obviously ideal for my plan to make free-of-charge novels, since I can create a unique character on-the-fly, but it's not so great for everyday life.

Okay, so, again, let's say that I imagine myself in a situation like the kind you find in Sentai, and I can even conjure up a suitable backstory.  Now, let's say I get in an accident that causes me to go into a coma.  Is it that hard to believe that I might come out of that coma thinking I AM that character I imagined?

I mean, you hear these stories of people who believe and do all sorts of things when they regain consciousness after an injury to the brain.  Like the man in Italy who got in a race car accident, who knew very limited English beforehand, but afterward, spoke in perfect English.  Or the little boy in Yorkshire who lost his heavy accent and started speaking perfect Queen's English after a type of operation on his brain.

The brain is a very mysterious thing we have.  It is said that we only use 10% of the brain for conscious thought at a time.  Really, is it so hard to believe that someone could have an accident and somehow, during this process of healing the brain, accidently start accessing all sorts of imaginary things and try to apply them to real life, as if they actually existed?  If I imagined that I could throw fire and electricity from my hand like Ness and Lucas, would it be too much of a stretch to think that if my brain is tampered with enough, I might actually start TRYING to use PSI?  I mean, I know it can't actually HAPPEN, but it would obviously be something I'd try if I really believed I was that character, wouldn't I?

This is certainly something for me to look into...

Something about my mind finds the most interesting part of that idea to be what you would call PSI Rockin' in that context. I'm not sure what it intends me to make of that.

The idea of believing yourself to be a fictional character, or at least a certain type of one... When I was a child I persistently had trouble separating fiction from reality. It doesn't seem too far-fetched to believe it quite plausible that something could break down that barrier again.

...it's an interesting thought experiment. I'll have to consider it further.

(...er, by way of explanation I located this from the ToO forum, on which my ID is Sonuna. That really isn't much of an explanation, but it's probably at least a bit more helpful than just sort of commenting out of nowhere. >_>;;)

That reference to (quite arguably) one of the greatest video games series ever was mostly made because that's where my mind has been lately. But I think something like that could definitely happen if you sink enough time in these objects of entertainment (considering the character's personalities, however, you'd be fairly mute, only shouting out things like "PK Fire/Blizzard/Thunder/etc.!" or "Okay!" xD)

You were like that, too? I still have trouble with that, which is one of the reasons this idea seemed to resonate with me. I'd imagine that it would most likely only affect somebody with a very active imagination, though, who actively dreams of living out another life (or someone very impressionable). I can't see this ever happening to, say, a doctor or a left-brained scholar.

This is mostly just an idea that ran through my head for an idea in my upcoming novel series, so it's not very thought-out or realistic. That's what fiction is for, though. :3

Yeah, I definitely had a feeling it was you, but that's a-okay! Go ahead and comment on everything else, if you want, it's definitely fine with me! :D

Haha.
When I took Psychology, we spent a lot of time watching movies having to do with the brain and we learned a lot about how parts of the brain are important, in that, they keep us from flinging ourselves onto people or possibly, becoming psychos. :P
That was one of my favorite parts of Psych. =] The brain is indeed quite interesting.

Watching movies? Man, Psychology sounds fun. Were these scientific documentaries or dramatic interpretations?

It's a wonder of the human body, that's for sure. And when linked with the nervous system and all that, it almost blows your mind.

We watched both types of films. :D

They could only be described in one word: Whoa.

"Whoa" as in "whoa, that's amazing", or as in "whoa, that's creepy, and will keep me up for months and give me nightmares". o_o

The latter. :[

But it helped us "be more knowledgeable" about certain things...really creepy , dark things!
